A REVIVED Barbados Association of Journalists (BAJ) met for the first time yesterday and has already set an agenda.

Its first order of business is to meet with Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin.

Interim president Amanda Lynch-Foster said afterwards that “it was a very successful meeting . . . and one of the first items that our members have asked us to deal with is, in relation to the various incidents that have happened between the police force and the Press.

“Commissioner Darwin Dottin said he wanted to meet with media managers to discuss these incidents and we think it is imperative that he also meets with journalists, and with a representative of the BAJ because we represent the people who are on the ground and on the front lines who actually have to interact with the police officers,” she said.

The BAJ will also look to establish a better link between the public and the Press.

Other members of the BAJ’s interim committee are Julius Gittens as vice-president, CMC’s Adriel “Woody” Richards as secretary/treasurer, and THE NATION’s Julia Rawlins-Bentham and the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation’s Jewel Forde will share the public relations officer position.
